About J. Michael
Banker, host, author, speaker. Husband and father above all.
An unconventional path
J. Michael didn’t start in a bank. He started chasing music. When the band didn’t pay, he did: janitor, cook, barista, and just about every job in between.
The climb to Managing Director at a bespoke New York investment bank didn’t come from a pedigree or a straight line. It came from betting on people, earning trust, and doing the work when no one was watching. The road from mopping floors to closing billion-dollar deals taught him the one thing he now builds everything around: business is won one real relationship at a time.
Vitality drives success, and success without vitality isn’t worth much.
The work today
At DBD Investment Bank, J. Michael brings deep expertise in middle-market M&A, restructuring, and capital formation. He has participated in billions of dollars in complex transactions, serving as a trusted advisor to executives, entrepreneurs, and business owners across the United States.
He also serves on the advisory board and executive team of ACG New Jersey, the state’s chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth, where he co-chairs the quarterly CEO and CFO Forum, a dinner series that brings the region’s founders and finance leaders around one table.

Going Beyond the Deal
Years across the table taught him the deal is never the whole story. What leads up to it, what happens after, and who the owner becomes along the way matter just as much. The show has that conversation in public: founders, operators, and the occasional expert on growing smarter, building toward a bigger exit, and the human side of success.

Two books, one mission
The Five Dimensions of Vitality is about the life underneath the work: health, relationships, purpose, joy, and career, brought into alignment so success and a life that feels alive move together instead of at each other’s expense. The Modern Day Rainmaker, coming soon, is about the craft itself: how relationships, credibility, and consistency bring the work in.
Both booksThe person behind the title
Colts Neck, New Jersey is home, where he lives with his wife and daughter. Ask what actually moved the needle and he won’t point to talent or timing. He points to discipline: the daily work of health and fitness, personal development, and showing up with consistency. That’s the engine behind the rest. He served as chief operating officer of an online fitness company, and he still trains, sharpens his mental and physical performance, and coaches others to do the same. A connector by nature and a lifelong student of growth, he holds himself to the five dimensions he writes about. The framework isn’t theory he sells; it’s how he runs his own life.
